Dash issues statement through his lawyer denying he illegally released music from his former artist.
Once upon a time, rapper Curren$y was a staple at DD172, the all-purpose creative outpost of Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Dame Dash.
The upstart brand, with its main office located in the Tribeca area of Manhattan, was an outlet for Dash's art gallery, website design firm and music label. Back then, Curren$y and Dash were hammering out the details on a musical partnership, but that was 2010 and this is now. All proposed deals are off the table and the up-and-coming New Orleans rapper is suing the music mogul for profiting off his music despite never striking a deal.
Curren$y has since moved on to ink a deal with Warner Brothers, and, according to TMZ, he's upset that Dash continues to profit off his music, which is now legally owned by Warner. He's seeking $1.5 million in damages.
Apparently the pair still aren't seeing things the same, as Dame has released a statement through his lawyer Joshua E. Seidman, refuting the claims:
"My client's initial reaction to the lawsuit was that of surprise, particularly in light of Curren$y's numerous statements that the Muscle Car Chronicles would be released by BlueRoc," states Seidman. "On March 15, 2012, the plaintiffs appeared in Federal Court to argue for a preliminary injunction seeking to enjoin my client from the continued distribution of the Muscle Car Chronicles. The plaintiffs' application was denied in open Court by Federal Judge Andrew Carter and the album was permitted to remain available through iTunes and other retailers. While the situation remains ongoing, we are hopeful that an amicable resolution can be reached."
"My client wishes Curren$y the best in all of his future career endeavors," the statement went on to say. "However, he has expressed a deep concern with respect to the manner in which the artist's attorney and manager have conducted themselves. He sincerely hopes that Curren$y is not being misled or pressured into making unwise decisions, such as the filing of what appears to be a potentially frivolous litigation."
This isn't the first hint of legal troubles for the music and film mogul. Last year, he was accused of being a deadbeat dad, when his ex-girlfriend Linda Williams went on record to say that he wasn't paying the court-ordered $425 a week in child support payments for their 20 year-old son. Dash is also reportedly on the hook for more than $3 million in back taxes to New York and New Jersey.
